Our caring team at Small's Mortuary consist of diverse group of professional men and women grounded in the mission of providing families with excellent care and compassion during their time of loss.
We have a staff of over 50 professionals on the Small Mortuary team from cremation specialist, crematory operators, family counselors, funeral directors, funeral attendants, support staff, embalmers, after care advisors, hospice care liaisons, managers, limousine drivers and arrangers serving families during their time of need
Several are licensed or specially trained professionals and take part in hours of continuing education building on the compassion and care of serving families during this time.

Mr. C’aracher (CJ) Small, Jr., is the son of the late Mr. C’aracher Small, Sr., and Mrs. Irene Johnson Small. CJ graduated from John S. Shaw High School he went on to attend S. D. Bishop State Community College and Auburn University at Montgomery.
Mr. Small was awarded an Associates of Art Degree from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Atlanta, Georgia; He was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from Faulkner University of Montgomery, Alabama.
He is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and 15 years ago founded Small’s Mortuary in Mobile, Alabama. Mr. Small’s life-long dream was to open his own funeral home that would offer a sense of pride and dignity while meeting the needs of families that would provide them a sense of comfort, confidence, and consistency with a personalized service.
He is a member of the National and State Funeral Directors and Morticians Association; National Funeral Directors Association and a member of the Prince Hall Masonry; a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity where he was named Mobile alumni Kappa Man of the year; he is a member of the Oakdale Community Service Club; a board member for the MLK Monday Mystic Association; a board member with the Mobile Civic Center; past board president for the Mt. Ararat Learning Center; a member and past King Elexis I for the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association. He is an elected member of the Mobile City Council representing District 3.
Through a dedication to community and faith Mr. Small is an active member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where he serves as Sunday-School musician and teacher; he is a member of the Mobile County Mass Choir; he also serves as a board member for the Mobile Area Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, (Port City United Voices).

A graduate of George Washington Carver High School in Century, Florida. He is a former US Navy veteran with an honorable discharge after four tours of service to the nation. He began his career as an apprentice embalmer and funeral director at Lee’s Funeral Home in Montgomery, Alabama. He furthered his education by attending Jefferson State Junior College and Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in Louisville. In 1978, Bobby began his tenure at Christian Benevlolent Funeral Home in Mobile. After 30 years, Mr. Brown joined Small’s Mortuary as General Manager.
His professional memberships include Alabama Funeral Directors Association, Alabama Funeral Directors and Mortician’s Association, National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity;
Mr. Brown serves as a board member Alabama Board of Funeral Service, Common Wealth National Bank, and the Department of Mortuary Science Advisory Board at Bishop State Community College in Mobile, Alabama.
He is married to Elecia Hutson Brown and the father of five children. Faith, Community and service to families in a time of bereavement are the principles that drive Mr. Brown daily. He is an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Mobile.

He is a native of Columbia, South Carolina and a 1997 graduate of Lower Richland High School. Desi furthered his education in the Mortuary Science field and graduated as Student-Government Association Vice President in February 1999 from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Decatur, Georgia.
Desi is dual state licensed as a funeral director and embalmer in Alabama and South Carolina. He is a Certified Crematory Operator, Cremation Specialist and is a National Licensed Preneed Agent. Desi joined Small’s Mortuary and Cremation Services, Inc. as the Executive Director of Staff Operations in 2014.. Desi has a sincere passion and dedication for the death and dying industry. He always desires to go the extra mile to ensure each family has a memorable experience during the advanced planning of funeral service or the passing of a loved one.
Desi definitely executes the 4 D’s of Small’ Mortuary, Distinctive, Dedicated, Diligent, and Dignified.
|Roslyn R. Green-Thornton , Funeral Director & Embalmer, Eastern Shore Location Manager|
Roslyn Renee Green-Thornton, a native of Natchez, Mississippi, is a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the state of Alabama. She serves as the Manager of the Eastern Shore location and is a Cremation Specialist. Roslyn is a 15 year funeral professional who is very passionate about providing the ultimate experience for grieving families who requires much more than just a funeral or burial for a loved one.
Mrs. Green-Thornton apprenticed under nationally recognized Bobbie E. Brown funeral director and embalmer at Small’s Mortuary and furthered her clinical appointment under Perry Pinkard, Mobile, Alabama.
Roslyn also receives impeccable reviews compared to those of counterparts for her maticulous and diligent dedication to the love of her profession which is expressively shown in the promising execution of her skill and talent. She was awarded an Associates Degree in Mortuary Science from Bishop State Community College, Mobile, Alabama
Roslyn is also a member of the Bishop State Community College Funeral Advisory Committee Board in Mobile, Alabama, and works in partnership with the American Board of Funeral Service Education. The American Board is the accrediting agency and is recognized by the US Department of Education which is further responsible for the national academic accreditation to the college specifically for the Mortuary Science Program.
She is passionate about funeral service and equally dedicated to her faith and family.
|CT Jones, Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer, Theodore Location Manager|
CT Jones relocated from West Palm Beach, Florida to Mobile, Alabama in 2016 he became a licensed funeral director in the state of Alabama and joined the Small’s Mortuary Management team that same year. He is a graduate of Miami Northwestern Senior High School. He graduated with honors and was awarded an Associate of Science Degree in Funeral Service from Lynn University.
CT was a Corrections Officer for thirteen years with the State of Florida Department of Corrections, serving as a Sergeant and later with Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. In 2001 CT became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the state of Florida, a certified crematory operator and a cremation specialist.
He is a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church Mobile, Alabama, a mortuary officer with the Florida Emergency Mortuary Response System, and the Past Vice President of the Palm Beach County Funeral Directors Association, and a member of Pride of Palm Beach Masonic Lodge # 447, Sam Brady Consistory # 312 Prince Hall affiliated.
